Thoughtful design, backed by structural engineering.
Onera brings architectural design and structural engineering together in one team, serving Wellington and the wider New Zealand. We work with homeowners, developers and builders to deliver well-resolved, construction-ready projects — from small modifications to entirely new buildings.
Architecture and engineering, under one roof.
Most projects move between an architectural designer and a separate engineer, with information passed back and forth. We do both in-house. That single point of authorship means better coordination, more efficient design, fewer surprises on site, and a result that respects your brief and your budget.
Because the architectural designer and the engineer are the same team, structural decisions are made with the design intent in mind from the very first sketch — not bolted on afterwards. During construction we monitor the work to make sure the structural intent is reflected on site, in line with your Building Consent conditions. Where a project calls for it, we collaborate with architects, mechanical engineers, geotechnical engineers and builders to bring everything together.
Each project receives the same care, whether it is a new family home, a small commercial fit-out, or a careful renovation.
As involved as you want to be.
Some clients want a hand in every decision. Others prefer to set the brief and let us bring it home. Both are welcome.
Onera offers full project management alongside our architecture and engineering work, so a single team can carry your project from the first conversation through construction and on to handover.
You decide how involved you want to be. We handle the rest.
Step in for the parts you enjoy, step back for the parts you don't, or hand us the whole project from day one. Either way, you stay informed and we keep things moving. See the full process on What We Do.
Healthier, more efficient, built to last.
Onera has a Certified Passive House Designer in their team. We help our clients create homes that are warmer, drier, quieter and far cheaper to run — designed specifically for New Zealand conditions.
Whether you want a fully certified Passive House, a low-energy home, or simply a build that performs better than the code minimum, we can model the options and help you choose what is right for your site and your budget.
